OYAS® TO REDUCE WATER CONSUMPTION

Extreme weather events, heatwaves, and the increasing scarcity of natural resources are forcing us to reconnect with the essentials. How are we contributing to solutions for the planet? What role can we play in a system that’s depleting its own resources?

The entire Oyas® team is dedicated to addressing the critical issue of water scarcity. Reducing water consumption—even in your garden—has become an urgent act of eco-citizenship. Climate change is altering rainfall and hydrological patterns, making effective water management crucial for helping Belgium adapt and mitigating the risks of drought or flooding.

Our products are 100% handmade in Belgium, rooted in a social economy based on solidarity. For us, this approach is the most meaningful way to build a world that respects both ecological concerns and human dignity.

By choosing our Oyas® watering pots, you're not only supporting local craftsmanship, you're also becoming a partner in our commitment to sustainable living. Thank you for being part of our story and for keeping our Brussels workshop-boutique thriving. Producing locally allows us to reduce our carbon footprint, bolster the local economy, and build a closer connection with our community.

THE STORY OF OYAS® BELGIUM

In March 2014, after several months of research, prospects and studies, Oyas® environnement was created in France and more specifically in Saint-Jean-de-Fos, an ancestral pottery village in the Hérault region. Their aim is to develop the irrigation pottery process by making it accessible to as many people as possible! They are committed to socially responsible production and a process with the lowest possible environmental impact. The team now has 35 employees and a number of partners.

Fast forward to 2020, when Marie, founder of Oyas® Belgium, discovered this innovative irrigation solution. At the time, finding locally produced Oyas® in Belgium was almost impossible. Yet here was a company in southern France embracing environmental and social values that aligned perfectly with Marie’s vision. A bold idea began to take shape: What if Oyas® were produced right here in Brussels?

By July 2021, Marie took the leap, visiting the French company with hopes of forming a partnership. That first meeting was promising, sparking new challenges and ambitions.

THE BELGIAN TEAM

In January 2022, Oyas® Belgium came to life as a follow-up to the Greenlab start-up accelerator organised by Hub.Brussels. In June 2022, at the end of the Greenlab closing ceremony, Oyas Belgium was awarded the Triodos prize !

During the summer of 2022, Marie tirelessly promoted Oyas® at trade shows and plant fairs, importing products from Oyas® Environnement in France. Though the road was challenging, it was deeply fulfilling. The next big step was clear: finding a workshop to begin producing locally.

By March 2023, Oyas® Belgium moved into the Merisiers workshop in Watermael-Boitsfort. The dream of Belgian production was finally within reach. That same year, Anaïs joined as co-founder and production manager. Together, they welcomed their first ceramist and kiln partners to kick off 100% Belgian production. The team set ambitious goals to ensure that Oyas® Belgium remained true to its environmental and social promises, blending craftsmanship with a commitment to sustainability.

"Faced with the growing danger, it's up to each and every one of us to come up with a response. This response will require new words and symbols, new mental constructs and the invention of a shared imagination around the question of the balance between man and his environment."
